Simply, by cutting waste. For example:

You set your heating to come on at 6am because you want your home to be warm and the water to be hot at 7am when you get up.

Conventional controls

Your heating system switches on and (because you have no way of knowing) heats your house to the temperature you have set by 6.15am.

You then continue to pay to keep your home at the temperature you wanted for 45 minutes whilst you are asleep.

The hot water tanks heats a full tank of hot water ready for your morning shower. You already had half a tank of water that was hot enough left over from the night before, but your heating system heats it all again anyway.

Wasted heating time: 45 minutes

Wasted water heating: 200 litres of water has been unnecessarily heated. It will cool again before you need to use it.

With GSN Energy Management

The system receives daily weather information and (due it having learned how long your house takes to warm up) switches on your heating at 6.45am. Your home is at the temperature you wanted, exactly when you wanted it to be.

As you have the Energy Manager's water tank controller, the system detects that you have enough hot water for your morning shower. The water heating therefore does not switch on at all.

Wasted heating time: 0 minutes
